Oh, BTW, I was mugged by a gang of 6 teens in Paris (bad idea - wander looking for night photography in a bad area, but I was young back then). I'm not going to try to take on 6 teenagers with knives. Wallets are replaceable, my internal organs somewhat less so.
Did the 6 teenagers force you to give your wallet or talk you into it with a sweet deal?

IMO, scamming is a lot more devious than robbery.

however, both: preying on the innocent, taking something that doestn belong to them.

one uses brute force or terror, the other uses deceipt and lies.

Now can we get back to topic please??

no you dont volenteer to give it away you make a deal in good faith on your part and the scammer (fraud) makes the deal in bad faith intending to steal it

it is stolen either by force (robbery) or deception (fraud, scam)

FRAUD EQUALS JAIL TIME IN MANY CASES IF CONVICTED

trusting people get scammed because they have the idea that basically most people are honest.

I'll admit, I didn't have the time or energy to read all these posts. But my question would be, if they had a way for you to change your name, what would happen to your armor and customized weapons? Would the name change on them too? If they did then I would assume that one could turn around and sell thier armor and customized weapons to other players. All they would have to do is change thier name to what it says on the armor while you change yours to something else. Which, in turn, would bring out a whole load of scammers. *sigh*

Levelling to 20 can be done rapidly. Scammers will learn to powerlevel.
If this is the case, half the stuff in the game would have been revoked due to "scammers"

1> Scammer affected? If not, then NOONE will be affected. It's kind of like picking a handful of people, saying they all downloaded music, and only picking on to take to trial in a court. I'm not saying scammers wouldn't do it; but there really is no way to protect AGAINST scamming, unless you bypass "three failsafes" <---1> Trade Window <----2> Hitting "Confirm" <----3> Clicking accept. Other then that there is no-way to be scammed unless you willingly participate. Note: I said scamming, not hackers, so this doesn't include hacked accounts or anything. MY guess is you've already been "scammed" or know somebody who has and is bitter against everyone for it.

There's noway to tell even if you didn't know their names or if they changed em to begin with.

2> Make it some ridiculously large amount of something if you people are so insecure about it, like 5-10 skillpoints <so we know you're actually playing the game>

3>If people rapidly levelled to 20 <Granted, there are quite a few> and then went on to scamming, their name gets reported. Yes; they can change their name, but only if they REALLY want to scam people as they'll need a high cost in skillpoints or some other in-game attainable payment <aside from gold, which I feel is bad...paying to change? No thanks. I'll trade in 5-10 skillpoints though!>

Yes, this idea has a lot of holes, but in general it is a very good idea; in case I wanted to add a "Sir" name or "Master" name to my characters, or just plain rename them because I think they deserve a different/better one. This is why the skillpoint thing would be do-able..it makes you earn it instead of <changing names to scam people>

I made a thread about changing the name on customized items with the changing of your character name.

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=83932

The only way to prevent scamming is to have an IQ test as part of character creation. Someone selling you a 15>50 8 Req Chaos Axe for 200p, but for plat only and you have to give 100p first is going to run with your 100K. People selling you their "account" are scamming you. Not to mention that's breaking the EULA.

are you actually saying someone who hands over their money to someone with a knife or gun is a coward?

if you are saying that you are some little kid (of any age) who has never been in that position.

or you may be culled before you can pass it on. (evolution in action)

I dont think our character primary key in database is its name, because you cant wear for exemple an armor that you created with one char that you deleted on another char who has exactly the same name.

If you add someone to your "friend list", even if he deleted his char to creat another one, i think you can still see that guy, so i dont think you re right saying what you say, or maybe you think people can remember the names of all the scammers around the game and so on...

So I m for being able to change char name

The information database on characters is NOT determined by name. It's a unique player ID that's auto-generated. Try to create a new player with the same name as an old one, and use the old player's customized equipment on the new player. Same name, different player.

You, my friend, although adequately have shown your courage while being mugged, shouldn't set that example for other people. You should give them what they want; you can never put yourself in their shoes. It goes for alot of things. One wallet isn't worth one life, no matter how you look at it. You should set the example you should do what is needed to ENSURE SAFETY, not kicking "the crap" out of them..you never know if they'll fire a gun, or stab at you :P

The only thing I want is an Edit button.
there you would go into the character creation screen for that character and you could edit everything.

Example: Ah crap I used a major instead of a minor.
Edit>click supirior>accept changes.
